Should I purchase a Quartz Movement Replica Watch, or an Automatic Movement Replica Watch?

As a first time buyer, this was one question that I had to get a better understanding of before I made my purchase.  Knowing the differences between what each movement made me feel more intelligent of what I was purchasing.  I thought it would be good to begin to explain to you what the key differences were for each type of watch. 

Quartz Replica Watches operate by using a tiny quartz tuning fork with gold tipped ends.  The battery in the watch sends the fork a signal, which sends a vibration to the rest of the circuit board to keep the perfect time.  Quartz watches can last 10 years plus, but due to the gold erosion on the fork tips this can become inaccurate over time.

Automatic Replica Watch is also known as an auto winding watch, which winds itself based on movement.  If you were to take the back side off the watch and look at how it works, you will see there is a rotating piece of metal called a pendulum that moves every time the watch does. this in turn winds the main spring.  If you do not wear this watch on a daily basis, it will not wind and you will have to reset it.

Now that you have that information, here are a few questions to consider before you choose what to purchase.

1. How often do you plan on wearing your replica Rolex watch?  You will never have to worry about winding your watch if you choose a Quartz movement, but with Automatic if you leave it sitting for a few days you may have to wind it a few times and walk around with it.  The Automatic movement depends on movement and gravity to self wind.  If you do not mind winding and resetting your watch because you only wear it to special occasions, then automatic would be a good choice.

2. Do you want to say it is real?  Most high end watches are automatic movement.  If you are looking at the Breitling, Hublot or Panerai replica watches than you will have the automatic movement.  While Time Traditions do carry Quartz movement watches, the majority we carry feature automatic movement.  If you want a quartz watch that looks like the real thing, you will want to purchase one with a stationary stop watch hand.

3. Do you mind re-setting the time on your watch?  If you mind doing this, then you will want to strongly consider purchasing a want winder. Broohstones carry then for about $99.00.  The only thing maintenance required in a quartz movement watch is remember to change the battery.  Please note that typical automatic movement replica watches have to be Pre-Charged. ( manually wound by the crown ) every two weeks.

4. How much are you looking to spend?  As said above, most high end replica watches feature automatic movements.  They run from 150 – 500 dollars on some.  Quartz runs about 160 dollars at Time Traditions.

5. How long do you expect your replica to last?  Quartz replica watches can last well over ten years if treated nicely, as the automatic movement lasts 2-3 years before it may need its maintenance.  It all depends on how well you take care of your watch. Like never wear your watch in the shower.
